Montgomery Botanical Gardens was made possible by the generous support of individuals, groups, clubs, and other organizations. The continued development of the gardens depends on the donations and membership dues from those sources throughout the river region and beyond. The latest achievement through such generosity is the new Hosta Bed within the Japanese Maple Garden in Phase II of MBG. The Jasmine Garden Club in Montgomery, a faithful financial supporter for MBG, donated funds for the beautiful Hostas that now adorn a shady curved space beneath a section of the Japanese Maples that were installed earlier this year.

Specimens such as “Captain Kirk”, “Blue Cadet”, “Patriot” and others call to mind the close proximity of the Gayle Planetarium to the gardens. Other specimens include “Bedazzled”, “Francee”, “Ranbow’s End”, “Voices in the Wind”, “Autumn Frost” and more. As these beauties grow and spread, they will become an impressive display for those who visit to admire and especially for those who are partial to Hostas.
Hostas installed with signs
MBG’s faithful Master Gardener volunteers Suzanne Reaves, Billie Crawford, Dave Toellner and board member Maggie Stringer worked with Diane Vanella, MBG Horticulturist, to create the bed, amend the soil and install the plants and mulch. Signs were installed in the bed to acknowledge the support from the Jasmine Garden Club and to identify each type of Hosta. The Hosta Garden is located in Phase II of MBG which is directly in front of the Parks and Recreation Building facing Forest Avenue.
