During these pleasant spring days, it is the perfect time for you to visit the gardens. The Day Lilies are in bloom and are spectacular! The Montgomery Day Lily Society created and cares for this garden and their dedication produces beautiful results. Blooms of numerous colors, shapes and sizes nod their heads in the breeze for a day, and then they are gone, only to produce a new bloom the next morning. They are a must see.
At this same time, the Vitex Lilac trees are offering their lovely purple flowered limbs for your viewing enjoyment as well as Butterfly bushes waving their deep purple plumes. The fluffy pink blossoms of Hydrangea are standing proudly among deep green leaves. The Candy Corn Spirea is a striking specimen with its bright yellow, green and orange leaves with fuchsia blooms.
At the entrance to MBG Phase I you will notice that the Snapdragons have been replaced with SunPatiens for the summer that are just beginning to thrive. These beauties will fill the circular beds with bright shades of pink, red and orange later in the summer as they grow.
On a shadier note, the Hosta Garden is doing well and some are blooming.. This garden was donated by the Jasmine Garden Club and is located in Phase II of MBG within the Japanese Maple Garden. Some of these Hostas bear names connected to space in recognition of our neighbor, the Gayle Planetarium, such as ‘Captain Kirk’, and ‘Cadet Blue’.
As all seasons turn, the gardens are always changing with time. So, visit soon and often to be able to enjoy the full offering of nature’s beauty that is provided for you in Montgomery Botanical Gardens at Oak Park. There is no admission fee and it is open from 8 am until sundown. Many volunteers work diligently to provide this oasis of nature for you in urban Montgomery, so visit and enjoy it.
