Come join your friends and neighbors to learn about our beautiful botanical gardens and observe the progress achieved so far. The gardens are located within the historic Oak Park at 1010 Forest Avenue, across the street from Jackson Hospital. Gather on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 am, in the Wisdom Wood Outdoor Classroom to begin this class on “A Brief History and Guided Tour of Montgomery Botanical Gardens Phase I and Phase II”. The class will be led by Cathy Maddox, President of the MBG Board of Directors.

Cathy is a native of Mobile, Alabama, and has lived in Montgomery for 41 years. She is married to Attorney Bruce Maddox and they have four children and four grandchildren. After teaching high school mathematics and sciences, then serving in the Alabama Department of Mental Health for 25 years and earning an MBA, she retired and became a Certified Master Gardener. She is a charter member, founding board member, and an avid volunteer for MBG. Cathy will share the beginnings of the gardens, the process of garden development and maintenance, and some exciting plans for the future.

Bench seating for the class on April 26 will be available in the outdoor classroom, although participants may wish to bring folding chairs for comfort. Water will be furnished. The class is free and open to the public and no preregistration is required.  Donations are always appreciated and all are encouraged to join MBG and become a supporting member.

Upcoming MBG educational activities in the gardens include National Public Gardens Week and Birdwatching in May; Passalong Plants and Propagation in September; Pottery in the Gardens in October; and Decorating for the Holidays in December. MBG will also offer other educational opportunities throughout 2025.
